Our Staff
University Health Services has a dedicated staff of physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners who have chosen college health because they enjoy working with young adults.
Our physicians come from a variety of backgrounds. They are Board Certified in Family Practice. Board certification requires varying years of postgraduate training, education and successful completion of a certification examination measuring knowledge and competence.
Our physician assistants (PAs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) are health professionals who have completed master’s level programs. Nurse practitioners also have experience as registered nurses prior to completing their advanced practice programs. Education as a physician assistant or nurse practitioner includes the diagnosis and treatment of common and urgent health problems. PAs and NPs are qualified to evaluate, diagnose, and provide medical care for a wide variety of medical problems. They are also licensed to perform diagnostic procedures and minor surgeries, and to prescribe medications and treatments.
Our physician assistants are certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and function under the supervision of our licensed physicians.
Our nurse practitioners are certified by the American Nurses Association as Adult or Family Practice Nurse Practitioners and practice under their nursing licenses. Both our PAs and our NPs work in teams with our Health Services physicians.
We encourage you to select the Medical Staff member with whom you feel most comfortable to serve as your primary care provider while you attend
CMU.
In addition to our
medical staff, a variety of health professionals from other health care
fields complete our multi-disciplinary team, working together to provide
safe, effective, appropriate health care services for the CMU community.
