Responsibilities of Patients

University Health Services requires that patients participate as partners in the health care team. This means that:

bullet Patients are responsible for being considerate of the rights of other patients, health Services staff, and for University property.
bullet Patients are responsible for making an appointment whenever possible and arriving on time.
bullet Patients are responsible for canceling an appointment as soon as possible if unable to keep it so that another patient may be seen during that time.
bullet Patients are responsible for giving the health care provider full and complete information on their health care status, and for cooperating in treatment planning and follow-up.
bullet Patients are responsible for knowing the name(s) of the medications they take as well as the medications' purposes, common side effects, and prescribed doses.
bullet Patients are responsible for asking sufficient questions of the health care provider, making use of available information and education concerning their own health.
bullet Patients are responsible for informing their health care provider in a timely manner about changes in their health or any unexpected complications that may occur during treatment.
bullet Patients are responsible for using identified methods of expressing concerns and making suggestions, whenever indicated, rather than remaining silent, in order to assist Health Services in improving the quality of health care and health education services. Those methods include Patient Satisfaction Surveys, e-mail comments to healthservices@cmich.edu or meet with the appropriate Health Services supervisor or director.
bullet Patients are responsible for payment of the total amount of their charges for care provided at University Health Services.
