band debit card. Charges will be placed on the student’s

Student Health Insurance
(back to top of page)
Central Michigan University strongly recommends that all students have
health insurance coverage while they attend college. An unexpected serious
illness or injury could devastate a carefully planned budget and disrupt a
student’s academic career.
Students who are covered by a health insurance plan should have a good
working knowledge of what the plan covers, what the plan does not cover, any
co-pays or deductibles that are required, and whether pre-authorization is
necessary for office visits, laboratory, pharmacy or other services. They
should also carry their health insurance card (or a photocopy) with them in
their billfold or purse at all times.
HMO or PPO insurance plan subscribers should contact their plan Customer
Service representative about the procedure they should follow to obtain
out-of-network authorization for non-emergency care at University Health
Services while they attend CMU.
For students who do not have current health insurance coverage, a CMU
sponsored optional health insurance plan is available. A mailing is sent to
all enrolled students in August, detailing the benefits of the plan and the
premium cost. Brochures and applications will also be available in the UHS
Business Office, Foust 108, (989) 774-3059.
