QUICK CARE
What is Quick Care at University Health Services?
Quick Care is a convenient, fast service option for quality medical care for
CMU faculty, staff, their spouses and dependents age 14 years or older who need
treatment for acute, episodic illness and injuries, i.e., a walk-in clinic for
problems such as sore throats, cough and colds, seasonal allergies, the flu, skin rashes,
female urinary tract infections (UTIs), sprains and strains, cuts and puncture wounds.
Services are provided on a space available basis and based on the urgency of need for care.
Quick Care does not provide emergency care for life-threatening illnesses or injuries,
nor does it include long-term management for chronic health problems. Emergency care is that
which is needed for a serious problem caused by an injury or illness which arises suddenly
and requires immediate treatment to prevent death. If you experience any of the problems listed
below, you should go directly to the Central Michigan Community Hospital Emergency Department.
Dial 911 for police and ambulance assistance.
Some examples of emergency problems include:
- Chest pain or pressure
- Severe shortness of breath
- Signs of a stroke, such as sudden onset of numbness in an
extremity or slurred speech
- Bleeding that isn't controlled by 10 minutes of firm pressure
- Poisoning or drug overdoses
- Major injuries such as a head injury with loss of consciousness
- Coughing or vomiting blood
- Suicidal or homicidal feelings
Additional services are available, including a pharmacy, laboratory,
x-ray and other diagnostic imaging services. Insurance billing is provided.
You do not have to pay on the date of service unless you prefer to do so.
Charges can be placed on your personal CMU account or your credit or debit card.
Immunizations, TB skin testing, and a Travel Health Clinic are also offered.
Allergy shots, utilizing serum from your allergist, can be administered by our
registered nurses. Call 774-6591 for additional information or visit our website at
www.healthservices.cmich.edu.

You can simply walk in during the scheduled hours, check in at the

Why was the decision made to provide Quick Care service?
Employee surveys and other feedback showed employee interest in having
access to our services. The convenient on-campus location helps to minimize
time away from campus for hard to get office appointments or long waits in
an urgent care facility for treatment of acute, episodic illnesses and injuries
or other services, such as allergy shots, laboratory testing, or pharmacy.
Using University Health Services can help reduce out of pocket medical expenses for
CMU faculty, staff and their families, help to contain insurance costs for the university,
and help to support the operation of University Health Services, including community
health measures such as disease prevention and communicable disease outbreak management.
Our goal is to create a win-win-win situation for our CMU community.
